As we all know, yesterday (last night, this morning, today-whatever you consider midnight) was Mexican Independence celebration. Like Jimmy Fallon said "Today is the Mexican Independence, many Mexicans celebrated in their favorite spot--here."
To be honest, I have no idea what people are celebrating. I don't celebrate and I don't feel proud of my country, however I do feel proud of my hometown Mexico City. Many people engage their backgrounds and heritage, which I believe should be engaged and celebrated but also civilized. Long story short, I don't think we have anything to be proud of at the moment, Mexico is not independent and is hostage of delinquency, fears and death now more than ever.
So maybe some day, when we pass these rough patch, Americans and immigration issues come to an understanding, and Mexico can provide for its citizens and not force them to flee to other other countries in search of what wasn't at home--then maybe I will celebrate its independence.
Currently Listening To: "Imprint After" by Toro Y Moi (thanks to Julie who got me into his music.
